Baby dohars are the ultimate multi-tasking essential—perfect as a swaddle, nursing cover, stroller blanket, tummy time layer, or a luxe travel companion for your mini jet setter. Designed and made exclusively for Courtney Barton, each dohar blends age-old tradition with modern luxury.
The word dohar comes from the Hindi term doharana, meaning “to repeat,” with dohar itself signifying “layered”—an apt name for these three-layer blankets. Crafted from mulmul, a light, airy cotton muslin once reserved for Indian royalty, dohars are traditional summer blankets that become softer with every wash.
Each dohar is printed by hand using centuries-old block printing techniques. Artisans carve intricate patterns into wooden blocks, dip them into natural, azo-free dyes, and press them onto the fabric in a slow, rhythmic process—repeating the motion anywhere from 500 to 3,000 times. Made in small batches, no two dohars are exactly alike. Even among those of the same design, subtle variations reflect the hand of the maker and lend each blanket its own distinctive charm.
