This brightly colored and striking bangle is handwoven on the Pacific Coast of Colombia by Wounaan Indian women. Each is one-of-a-kind.
To make these bangles, men first gather leaves from the Werregue palm tree. Women then pull the thin fibers from each palm leaf and wash and dry them, and the fibers are dyed using a variety of plants and minerals. The tight spiral woven technique used in the creation of this bracelet makes it very sturdy and long-lasting.
