New York City–based interior designer Nicki Clendening has always had an eye for the extraordinary, particularly things that have already lived a life. Born into a family with a deep love of art and antiques, Nicki went to her first flea market at eight years old and was hooked. She has been hunting ever since: through the fields of Round Top, brocantes in France, antique markets in Italy, and flea markets from Los Angeles to New York. She is forever searching for the beautiful, the unusual, and the slightly unexpected, and, quite simply, she has the ultimate eye.
Created especially for Courtney Barton, this collection began with a strand of pearls given to Nicki, too special to leave tucked away and begging for a new life. From there, she built the collection much as she approaches an interior: instinctively, unexpectedly, mixing old things that somehow become even better together.
Nicki scoured flea markets and antique sources for whatever caught her eye: African trade beads, lampwork glass, antique Italian coral, Venetian feather beads, engraved Tuareg silver, vintage turquoise, malachite, pearls, and vintage French mother-of-pearl gaming chips reimagined as charms.
Each piece is designed and made by Nicki, bringing together objects from different places, periods, and cultures into something entirely singular. No two are alike, and that is precisely the point. These are pieces with history, wit, soul, and a little eccentricity. Jewelry meant to be worn now and collected for years to come.
