CB's Mother's Day Gift Guide
Mother’s Day is coming up, and like much of 2020 the holiday will no doubt be wrought with emotion. For our family, the weeks since Easter have been a bit of a struggle, the newness of days at home having worn off and our longing for normalcy growing stronger. So I’m looking to Mother’s Day with joyful anticipation — preparing to celebrate the influential women in my life is giving me a much-needed boost.
We’re living in a compelling moment to celebrate motherhood in all its forms: the new moms waking in the night for feedings; those working remotely while homeschooling their children; aunts and sisters; grandmothers and mothers-in-law; and the teachers, sitters, and coaches who care for our kids in extraordinary ways. To be a mother is to be a manager, a disciplinarian, a confidante, a cheerleader, a housekeeper, a chef, a nurse, an educator.
Mother’s Day holds a special place in my heart. My mom is a remarkable woman, dedicated to her four adult children, selfless, brave, hardworking, loyal, and the most beautiful lady I know. Now that I have children of my own, I find it inspiring to honor my mom while also reveling in my own motherhood experience. I love waking up to my boys’ smiling faces and tiny bodies as they plop into our bed each morning, asking if we’ve had good dreams, and their delight in the evenings as we gather for dinner, a family walk, or a board game always makes the day’s toil worthwhile. These are the moments that remind me motherhood is a gift — and my favorite job of all.

Of course, many of us cannot celebrate alongside our mothers this year. Instead of boisterous extended family gatherings and boozy brunches at favorite restaurants, you may find yourself enjoying a candlelit meal at your breakfast table, FaceTiming loved ones over afternoon cocktails, venturing out for a picnic at a sunlit park, or corralling everyone for a family bike ride through the neighborhood to say “Hi!” to friends.
